CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton softball team swept the UMass Boston Beacons in Little East Conference action, earning a 5-4 comeback victory in game one before securing a 7-1 win in game two.
Game 1

How it Happened:
UMass Boston struck first in the second inning, using a pair of walks to set up a two-run double to left-center field for an early advantage. The Beacons extended their lead to 4-1 in the seventh, capitalizing on well-placed hits and a couple Spartan errors.
Samera Rideout put the Spartans on the board earlier in the game with her first home run of the season, cutting into the deficit.
Castleton mounted a comeback in the seventh with consecutive singles putting runners in scoring position before
Sami Horton delivered an RBI double to center field to make it 4-2.
Jordan Hill followed with a double off the left field fence to tie the game at four.
Makayla Walsh sealed the comeback with a walk off single down the left field line, bringing home the winning run for a 5-4 victory.
Top Performers:
- Madison Gould pitched a complete game, striking out six while allowing only four hits and three walks.
- Hill recorded two RBIs, while Walsh added the walk off hit.

How it Happened:
Castleton carried its momentum into the second game, scoring early in the first inning. Gould doubled to right center to put runners in scoring position before
Alex Brouillette drove in a run with an RBI single. Walsh added a sacrifice fly to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead.
Castleton extended its lead in the fourth inning with
Alexis Rogers leading off with a single. Horton delivered another RBI double to center field with
Abby Hacker following with a run-scoring single to make it 4-1.
The Spartans added three insurance runs in the sixth inning, stringing together multiple hits and taking advantage of a Beacon error to secure the 7-1 win and complete the sweep.
