JOHNSON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's tennis team moved to 2-3 on the season following Wednesday's 7-0 win over VTSU Johnson for the second time in as many weeks.
Remy Maynard and
Tanner Ciufo battled at the first spot, taking their doubles match 6-4, while
Tyler Burke and
Charles Watson blanked their opponents 6-0 at the second spot. At the third spot,
Addy Boynton and
Jackson Paquin took the match by default as Castleton earned the doubles point.
Ciufo went the distance at No. 1 in singles play after a 6-3 first set before falling behind 6-1 in set two. The final set went 10-6 in Ciufo's favor as he secured another point for Castleton. Paquin's match at No. 5 went the same as he earned another point for the Spartans with a 6-1, 1-6, 10-6 victory. At No. 2, Maynard earned a 6-0, 6-2 win, while Watson took a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3, and Burke blanked his match 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Boynton took No. 6 by default for a Spartan Sweep.
The team returns to action Saturday, April 4, on the road at Salem State for an LEC match set for 3 p.m.
