STOWE, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's tennis team dropped a close 4-3 match to VTSU Lyndon Thursday evening.
The Spartans snagged the doubles point with a 6-3 win by
Tanner Ciufo and
Remy Maynard at No. 1, while
Charles Watson and
Jackson Paquin earned a 6-1 win at No. 2. The Hornets took the match at No. 3 by default.
Castleton took two singles matches at No. 3 and No. 5. Watson took down Parker Pierce 6-1, 6-0, and
Addy Boynton was forced to a third-set tiebreaker, ultimately winning 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7). Ciufo fell at No. 1 6-0, 6-2, Maynard dropped at No. 2 6-4, 6-1, and Paquin lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. VTSU Lyndon took No. 6 via default, resulting in a 4-3 win for the Hornets.
The Spartans head to WestConn on Saturday, April 18, for a 1 p.m. Little East Conference match.
