CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's tennis team dropped a close non-conference battle with in-state rival Norwich, 4-3, on Wednesday evening.
The Cadets snagged the doubles point with a 6-2 win at the top spot over
Remy Maynard and
Tanner Ciufo, and added a 6-3 win at the third spot over
Tyler Burke and
Addy Boynton. The Spartans grabbed a 6-3 win at the second spot via
Trevor Castino and
Charles Watson.
Castleton picked up three wins in singles action in Watson at the third spot, 6-2, 6-4, and Castino at the fourth spot, 6-3, 6-1. The final point for the Spartans came at the fifth spot in Burke as he battled in three sets, taking the win 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Norwich swept Ciufo at the top spot 6-0, 6-0, while Maynard lost 6-1, 6-1 at the second, and
Jackson Paquin 6-2, 6-2 at the sixth spot.
The team heads up to VTSU Lyndon tomorrow (April 16) for a 6 p.m. match.
