CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton baseball team pulled through with a tight 11-9 win over St. Lawrence on Wednesday, as first year
Josh Misiaszek led the team with four RBIs.

How it Happened:
The Spartans took an early 1-0 lead off a groundout by
Alex McClelland as
Joe Castellano scored on an error by the first baseman at the bottom of the third. The Saints shot back at the top of the fourth with a sacrifice fly as the game stood tied at one.
Castleton regained the lead at the top of the fifth with a double from
Carter Dickinson to bring home
Tommie Shaw, followed by a single from
Mikey Raby Jr. to bring in
Trey LaVigne (3-1). Misiaszek sent a single to third base to bring in Dickinson as the Spartans led by three (4-1). St. Lawrence would not back down as they put up three runs, including a home run at the top of the seventh for the game's second tie at 4-4.
The Spartans answered in the bottom half of the seventh, as Misiaszek singled through the right side to bring home Dickinson and LaVigne (6-4). On the next at-bat,
Tripp Shytle came in off the bench and grounded into a double play, but brought in Raby for Castleton's seventh run as the lead was back to three (7-4).
The bottom of the eighth saw Shaw single up the middle for a run, while Dickinson followed with a single through the right side to bring home Shaw (9-4). LaVigne scored on a passed ball on the next at-bat, while Misiaszek reached first on a fielder's choice before the final out to bring in the 11th and final run for Castleton (11-4). The Saints fought back at the top of the ninth, falling just shy of causing extra innings or taking the lead as two runners were stranded following a five-run inning as the Spartans pulled out the 11-9 victory.
Top Performers:
- Raby led the team with four hits, while Dickinson and Misiaszek added three each. The trio combined for seven RBIs as Misiaszek led with four.
- Carter Chapman notched two strikeouts, while Robbie Briggs and LaVigne added one each.
What's Next
The team ends its week-long homestand on Saturday, April 18, with a Little East Conference doubleheader against the Wolves of WestConn. Game one is set to begin at 12 p.m. with game two to follow.
