Early Push Not Enough for Baseball in Loss to Thoroughbreds

The Basics:

  • Location: Saratoga Springs, New York – Ferrari Field

How it Happened:
The Thoroughbreds struck first at the bottom of the first inning after the Spartans stranded two runners at the top of the inning. Castleton clapped back in the third with Tommie Shaw doubling to left field, allowing Alex McClelland to put the Spartans on the board as the deficit was now one (2-1). Carter Dickinson brought the tying run in with a groundout to the pitcher before Justin Strozyk reached on a fielder's choice with two runners on, bringing Shaw home for a 3-2 Spartan lead after three innings.

Castleton went down in order to open the fourth, while the Thoroughbreds brought in the tying run on a batter hit by a pitch with bases loaded (3-3). Three more runs by Skidmore before the Spartans could retire the side led to a 6-3 Thoroughbred lead after four. The final run of the game came at the bottom of the seventh inning as Skidmore snuck in its seventh run off a wild pitch. The Spartans left one runner on at the top of the eighth before going down in order in the ninth as Skidmore took the 7-3 win.
