Castleton Celebrates Winter Student-Athletes at Awards Ceremony Monday

CASTLETON, Vt. – Vermont State University Castleton winter student-athletes gathered in Casella Theatre on Monday evening to celebrate their achievements, with each program naming a Team MVP and the President's Cup for Academic Excellence awarded.

The women's alpine ski program received the President's Cup for Academic Excellence from Assistant Vice President for Athletics and Fitness Deanna Tyson. The award is presented each season to the team with the highest cumulative grade-point average, with the Spartans posting a 3.62 team GPA.
 
Women's Basketball
The women's basketball team finished 7-18 overall and 3-13 in Little East Conference play this season, led by Team MVP Emily Adams. Adams posted a season-high 25 points against UMass Boston and grabbed 13 rebounds against Plymouth State. Against WestConn, she went a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line. She averaged 15.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, leading the Spartans in both categories.

At the conclusion of her senior season, Adams was named to the All-LEC Second Team, earning her first career All-LEC recognition.
 
Men's Basketball
The men's basketball team was led by Team MVP Will Radcliff, who put together one of the most complete seasons in recent program history. The senior led the Spartans in scoring (19.5 ppg), rebounding (9.0 rpg), minutes, and field goal percentage, finishing with 488 points and 224 rebounds while recording seven double-doubles and a career-high 36-point performance.

Radcliff earned Little East Conference Player of the Week honors and was named to the All-LEC Second Team, as well as the LEC All-Academic Team. He finished the season ranked fifth in the conference in scoring and second in rebounding.
He also surpassed 1,000 career points against Keene State, becoming the 27th player in program history to reach the milestone. Radcliff now totals 1,115 points and 648 rebounds for his career, ranking 21st all-time in scoring and ninth in rebounds, with another year of eligibility remaining.
 
Wrestling
The Spartan wrestling team finished 15-8 in dual meet action and placed fourth at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regionals, qualifying three wrestlers for the NCAA National Championships. Team MVP Drew Marchese made his first appearance at the national event, going 2-2.

Over the course of his final season, Marchese finished 34-8 overall and 16-2 in duals, including three pins with a fastest fall time of 2:38.
 
Men's Alpine Ski
The men's alpine skiing team was led by Team MVP Sondre Andersen, who turned in an outstanding sophomore season as one of the region's top skiers. Andersen earned his first collegiate victory in the slalom at Sunday River and recorded multiple podium finishes throughout the year.

He delivered a strong showing at the Eastern Regional Championships, placing sixth overall to help the Spartans qualify for the USCSA National Championships. On the national stage, Andersen posted fifth-place finishes in both slalom and giant slalom, earning First Team USCSA All-American honors in each event.

He also placed third overall in the combined standings to secure another First Team All-American honor and was named a USCSA Scholar All-American. As a team, the Spartans claimed the slalom title at regionals and finished third in slalom at the USCSA National Championships.
 
Women's Alpine Ski
The women's alpine skiing team turned in a dominant 2026 season, winning 10 of 12 regular-season races behind Team MVP Emilie Stene. Stene added to her historic career, extending her program-record total to 28 victories while earning USCSA Scholar All-American honors.

She capped her season at the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships by winning the slalom and claiming the overall title. The victory marked her fourth consecutive Eastern Regional overall and slalom titles and made her a 10-time USCSA Eastern Region Champion—the most in program history.

Stene also finished first in the USCSA MacConnell Division standings and was named Co-Skier of the Year for the third time. As a team, the Spartans captured another Eastern Regional Championship, continuing their dominance in the region.
 
Women's Ice Hockey
The women's ice hockey team had a strong first year in the newly formed Little East Hockey Conference, finishing 12-15-0 overall and 7-11-0 in conference play. The Spartans advanced to the LEC Championship Semifinals after defeating Keene State, 4-2, in the opening round before falling to Norwich, 4-2.

After playing 532:26 against the Cadets across nine contests dating back to November 11, 2022, Team MVP Moa Carlsson scored Castleton's first goals against the nationally competitive program, netting both in the semifinal loss.

Carlsson appeared in all 27 games, leading the team with 24 points on 13 goals and 11 assists. She averaged 0.89 points per game and tied for fourth in the conference in scoring. A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Carlsson recorded four power-play goals and a career-high three short-handed goals. She was named to the All-LEC Second Team.
 
Men's Ice Hockey
The men's ice hockey team kicked off the inaugural season of the Little East Hockey Conference with a 13-11-2 overall record and a 9-8-1 mark in conference play.

Team MVP Emmett McHardy led the squad with 16 assists and tied for the team lead with 30 points. He also scored 14 goals, including five on the power play and two short-handed tallies. McHardy was strong in the faceoff circle, posting a 249-207 record.
