NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's tennis team fell 7-0 to the Cadets of Norwich Wednesday night.
The Spartans fell in all three doubles matches, allowing the Cadets to secure the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.
Tanner Ciufo and
Remy Maynard dropped at the top spot 6-2, while
Charles Watson and
Trevor Castino fell 6-3 at the second spot. At the third spot,
Tyler Burke and
Lukas Bukatovs fell 6-3.
In singles play, Ciufo fell 6-1, 6-1 at the first spot, and Maynard fell 6-4, 6-1 at the second spot. Watson dropped 6-0,6-2 at the third spot, while Castino put up a fight at the fourth spot, but ultimately fell 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. Burke dropped 6-0, 6-4 at the fifth spot, and Bukatovs fell 6-1, 6-0 at the sixth spot.
The Spartans will next play at home in Rutland on Saturday, March 28, facing Rhode Island College in a Little East Conference matchup, set to begin at 1 p.m.
