  • Location: Winter Haven, Florida – Chain of Lakes Complex
  • Records: 2-1 St. John Fisher | 3-2 Castleton
How it Happened:
The Cardinals put two runs on the board in the top of the second inning off a Spartan error before Castleton caught the final out of the inning to retire the side. Striking again in the top of the fifth inning, St. John Fisher took a 3-0 lead off a sacrifice fly to left field. They added to the lead at the top of the sixth before the Spartans were able to turn a double play for the final out of the inning, trailing 4-0.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, rookie Alex McClelland sent a single out to right-center field with two runners on, allowing Trey LaVigne to score as Mikey Raby Jr. was thrown out at home. First year, Sam Lacombe made his Spartan debut on the mound, striking out the first batter he faced for his first career strikeout. Following another pitching change three batters late, the Cardinals tacked on the final three runs of the game in the top of the eighth as they took a 7-1 lead.

Castleton was able to put runners on base in the bottom of the eighth with two outs as Carter Dickinson singled down the left side and then advanced to second on a balk. Sebastian Vazques singled through the left side on the following at-bat, allowing Dickinson to move to third, while Logan Sinacola earned a walk, loading the bases for LaVigne, who then flew out to end the inning. Neither side could generate offense in the ninth inning, leaving the Cardinals with the 7-1 win.
