Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Castleton Falls to Eastern Connecticut

WILLIMANTIC, Conn.- The Vermont State University Castleton women's volleyball team lost to the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors in straight sets Friday evening at Geissler Gymnasium. The Spartans now sit at 6-5 and are 0-2 in LEC play after the setback.

The set scores were 17-25, 13-25, and 19-25.

Castleton opened the set with a kill by Lilli Burrows (Yarmouth, Maine). Eastern Connecticut and the Spartans would trade 4-0 runs, and the 5-4 lead for Castleton would be the last of the set. The Warriors pulled away, winning the set 25-17.

The Spartans scored the first point of the second set as well, which was a block by Burrows and Jocelyn Ray (Essex, Vt.). Castleton and Eastern Connecticut traded points, and the Spartans held a 4-3 lead after a kill by Sam Ford (Fort Wayne, Ind.). Eastern Connecticut took control after that, playing their best set of the match and won the set comfortably, 25-13.

Eastern Connecticut raced out to a 12-2 lead, but the Spartans did not go away quietly, including stringing together four consecutive points when the Warriors held a 23-15 lead. However, this was not enough as the Warriors scored the final two points to take the set and sweep the match.

Ford and Ray led the way offensively with six kills apiece, while Alondra Rojas (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) recorded a 20-20 with 20 assists and 20 digs.

Up next, the Spartans return home for a match against Colby-Sawyer this Wednesday. First serve is set for 7 pm.
