CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's basketball fell 74-63 to the Anchorwomen of Rhode Island College on Saturday, with
Arianna Coombs registering her sixth double-double of the season, and third in a row, while
Emily Adams led the offensive charge with 23 points.

How it Happened:
The Spartans hung with the Anchorwomen through the first quarter, despite being outscored 19-15. Castleton ended the first quarter with a 6-2 run, starting with two free throws from
Maggie McKearin in the final two minutes.
Stasia Epler scored the first basket of the second quarter, with a fast break layup, followed by Adams knocking down two free throws, tying the game at 19. Adams tied the game up again with five minutes to go at 23 with two made free throws, before the Anchorwomen jumped out to a 31-27 lead heading into halftime.
Rhode Island put up 27 points to Castleton's 16 in the third quarter. McKearin gave the Spartans some energy with one and a half minutes left with a big three-pointer (54-40), which
Schuylar Nolan followed up with a three of her own, leaving Castleton down 58-43 going into the final frame.
The Spartans faced their biggest deficit in the fourth quarter, down 21 (65-44) with seven minutes left of play. Adams strung together nine points as Castleton fought back, with
Arianna Coombs adding a jump shot with two and a half minutes to go, cutting the lead to 15 (72-57). Adams drained the Spartans' final three of the game with 41 seconds remaining, and
Arianna Coombs added another layup as the Spartans fell 74-63.
