LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's alpine skiing team competed in frigid conditions at Whiteface Mountain over the weekend, posting solid individual performances in both slalom and giant slalom.
Saturday
Sondre Andersen led the Spartans with a third-place finish in the slalom, recording a time of 1:26.61 for his third podium result of the season. Andersen currently leads the USCSA MacConnell Division in the overall slalom standings with 290 points. Lucas Pons finished 12th in 1:31.75,
Nate Hazen placed 16th in 1:32.70, and
Sven Cornelisse finished 23rd in 1:34.74.
Jack Conneely rounded out the Spartans' results in 25th at 1:35.33.
Castleton placed third in the team standings with a combined time of 4:31.06, finishing behind Babson College in first (4:19.42) and Clarkson University in second (4:29.49).
Sunday
Alex Jorge Lopez paced Castleton in the giant slalom with a sixth-place finish, posting a time of 2:12.09. Conneely finished 12th in 2:15.03, while
Gavin Bochnak placed 21st in 2:21.69.
Castleton finished fifth as a team with a combined time of 7:48.16. Babson College won the event in 6:24.68, followed by Clarkson University in second at 6:32.78 and the University of Connecticut in third at 6:43.71.
The Spartans will host giant slalom at West Mountain on Jan. 31.
