ANDOVER, N.H. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's alpine skiing team placed third on the opening day of slalom competition at Proctor Academy on Friday.
Sondre Andersen led the Spartans with a fourth-place finish, clocking a time of 1:28.19. Andersen moved up one spot after the first run, posting the third-fastest second run of the day. Nate Hazen followed with a ninth-place finish at 1:30.46.
Other Spartan finishers included Sven Cornelisse in 16th (1:34.34), Alex Jorge Lopez in 17th (1:34.72), Gavin Bochnak in 22nd (1:35.88), Jack Conneely in 26th (1:39.10), Bennett Erickson in 27th (1:39.57) and Mathew Moeckel in 30th (1:40.33) out of 80 racers.
Babson College claimed the team title with a combined time of 4:23.30, followed by Clarkson University in second at 4:30.64. Castleton finished third with a team time of 4:32.99.
The Spartans will return to Proctor Academy for day two of slalom on Saturday, January 17.
