NEWRY, Maine – The Vermont State University Castleton men's alpine skiing team finished third overall in the giant slalom on day two at Sunday River. 

The Spartans' top finisher was Marti Llort, who placed ninth overall with a time of 2:20.49. Sondre Andersen followed in 14th with a run of 2:22.17, while Alex Jorge Lopez finished 17th in 2:23.51. Nate Hazen had an 18th-place finish for Castleton, crossing the line in 2:24.47. 

Gavin Bochnak finished 22nd with a time of 2:27.03, Jack Conneely placed 26th in 2:29.89, and Matthew Moeckel rounded out the Spartans' competitors with a 30th-place finish in 2:34.14. 

Castleton placed third overall with a combined team time of 7:05.97, with Babson claiming first with a time of 6:46.30 and Clarkson finishing second at 6:55.85. 

Castleton heads to Proctor Academy on January 16 for two days of slalom.
