Women's Lacrosse Left at Sea as Mariners Cruise Through on Senior Day

CASTLETON, VT. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's lacrosse team recognized its seniors on Saturday morning, competing through four quarters before falling to Maine Maritime, 18-9, at Dave Wolk Stadium. Before the game, Kailyn August, Katie Stager, and Brianna Paul were honored for their contributions to the program.

How It Happened
Castleton got off to a steady start. The visitors scored first, but Phoebe Loomis responded off a pass from Gianna Geraci. Taylor Tallmadge and Brianna Paul each added goals, with Paul's assisted by Renny Cota, bringing the Spartans within one. Castleton trailed 6-3 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Castleton didn't score despite good ball movement and effort. The defense stayed active, but Maine Maritime took control, adding five goals to take an 11-3 lead at halftime.

Castleton's offense returned in the third quarter. Brianna Paul scored early, followed by a man-up goal from Megan Ward. Loomis added her second of the game, helping Castleton finish the quarter with three goals. The Spartans went into the fourth down 15-6.

In the fourth quarter, Castleton continued to play hard. Loomis scored with help from Paul, and Paul added two more, both assisted by Loomis. The Spartans finished the game with three more goals but could not close the gap. They lost 18-9.

Katie Stager finished her college career with 12 saves in goal.

With the game complete, the women's lacrosse team ended its 2025 season and will look forward to returning 15 student-athletes to the roster.
