PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton softball team defeated Plattsburgh State in two thrilling contest on the road Wednesday afternoon. The Spartans completed a sweep over Plattsburgh State with a 5-4 victory in the eighth inning. Castleton then took game two 6-3, fueled by a six-run inning in the top of the fourth. The game was called due to darkness after five innings.

How It Happened:
- Top 1st: Alexis Rogers hit her first home run of the season with a solo shot deep to left field, giving Castleton an early 1-0 lead.
- Bottom 1st: Plattsburgh responded with an RBI double from Sara Isaacs, plating two runs to take a 2-1 lead.
- Bottom 2nd: The Cardinals extended their lead to 3-1 with an RBI triple from Gwen Noll.
- Top 3rd: Makayla Walsh drew a bases-loaded walk, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
- Top 5th: Walsh reached on a throwing error, allowing Rogers to score an unearned run and tie the game at 3-3.
- Top 8th (Extra Innings): Masson Billert delivered an RBI single to put Castleton ahead 4-3. Jordan Hill added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to five.
- Bottom 8th: Plattsburgh's E. Deo hit a sacrifice fly to make it 5-4, but DeLong and the Spartans' defense held firm to secure the win.

How It Happened:
- Bottom 2nd: Plattsburgh took a 2-0 lead on an RBI single and a throwing error that allowed another run to score.
- Top 4th: Castleton responded with a huge inning. Jess Heinrichs delivered a two-run single to tie the game at 2-2. Taylor Russell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in the go-ahead run. Samera Rideout was also hit by a pitch, scoring another run to extend the lead to 4-2. Makayla Walsh capped the rally with a two-run single, making it 6-2.
- Bottom 4th: Plattsburgh cut the deficit to 6-3, scoring on a wild pitch.
- Bottom 5th: Madison Gould shut the door, holding the Cardinals scoreless to secure the win before the game was called.
