CASTLETON, Vt – The Vermont State University Castleton men's and women's alpine skiing teams are set to join the top programs from around the country in Bend, Oregon for the USCSA National Championships, beginning on Tuesday, March 11.
Men's
The men's alpine skiing team took home the National Championship the last two seasons, bringing home its first title in 2023. Aksel Stroem-Hansen posted fifth-place in the combined standings at last year's Championships.
This season, the men finished third in giant slalom and second in slalom at the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships. Senior Stroem-Hansen and rookie Sondre Andersen finished fifth and sixth out of 84 competitors on day one in giant slalom, with both notching top-10 finishes on back-to-back days, taking fifth and eighth respectively in slalom.
Women's
Last season, the women's alpine skiing team notched a seventh-place finish at Nationals and fifth in 2023. Four members of the women's team return from last year's Championships appearance with Ginevra Trevisan placing eighth in the combined standings, Emilie Stene 47th, who returns as the defending Giant Slalom National Champion from a season ago, Ines Robres Peireto 58th, and Karleigh Hollister 63rd.
This season, the women took home the top spot in both giant slalom and slalom at the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships. Stene notched first on both days to extend the new program record of wins to 23, while Andrea Rodriguez took second in giant slalom, and third in slalom. Alice Pomi notched third place in slalom, giving the women's team a sweep of the regional podium with Stene taking first, Rodriguez second, and Pomi third.
