Two Qualify For Regional as Spartans Kickoff Season at Utica

UTICA, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's and women's indoor track & field teams opened their 2025 season on Saturday at the Utica Holiday Classic. Castleton saw two student-athletes qualify for the New England Regional.

The Basics
  • Event: Utica Holiday Classic

Spartan Men
  • Rookie Kenique Josephs set two school records in his collegiate debut, placing fourth in the 60m dash (7.11) and 10th in the 200m dash (23.08).
  • Britain Goodemote opened his senior campaign with a seventh-place finish in the triple jump, recording a leap of 13.49 to earn New England qualifier status.

Spartan Women
  • Kalynn Stevenson earned a pair of podium finishes and New England qualifying marks, setting a new personal best in the shot put with a throw of 12.36 and posting a mark of 14.64m in the weight throw.
  • Senior Bethany Davis raced to a sixth-place finish in the 5000m with a time of 5:54.05.
  • McKenna Castor set a new personal best in the 60m dash, finishing sixth with a time of 8.45.
  • Isabell Lanfear placed ninth in the shot put (11.02), while teammates Katelyn Yerdon and Karli Martin tied for 13th (10.32). The mark was a personal best for Yerdon.
  • Martin also earned a ninth-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 13.51.

Both squads return to action next Saturday, December 13, when they travel to the University of Southern Maine for the USM Alumni Open.
