Wrestling Carries #14 NWCA Team Dual Ranking Into New Year, Marchese and Camiscioli Recognized

MANHEIM, Pa. – The Vermont State University Castleton Wrestling team stayed put in the final set of regular season Coaches Polls, released by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) on Wednesday morning, claiming 14th in the Team Dual rankings. Drew Marchese and Nathaniel Camiscioli were ranked in the top 10 of their respective weight classes, with 10 wrestlers across all weight classes earning regional recognition.

The Spartans sit 3-2 in dual action, with wins over Norwich, No. 15 Coast Guard, and No. 24 Stevens. The squad will pick back up with duals on Sunday, January 4, against Ithaca College before heading out to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for the NWCA National Duals the following weekend.

Marchese remains seventh nationally at 125 pounds, now 17-3 overall on the season, and a perfect 5-0 in dual matches. The senior has posted wins over No. 4 Roanoke, No. 15 Coast Guard, No. 24 Stevens, West Liberty, and Norwich. Camiscioli was ranked ninth at 157 pounds, sitting 14-4 on the season overall and 3-2 in dual bouts with wins over No. 4 Roanoke, No. 15 Coast Guard, and Norwich.

In the Region 1 rankings, the Spartans had 10 wrestlers occupying spots in the top eight in all weight classes for the second time in a row. Marchese (125) and Josh Negron (197) were tabbed first, while Camiscioli (157) and Desmond McLaughlin (184) earned second-place nods. Nicolas Balella (141) and Jashon Holmes (165) were ranked third, with Stone Farnsworth (133) garnering the lone fourth-place ranking for Castleton. Colby Celuck (174) notched sixth-place honors, while Joseph Kennedy (149) and Keonta Crawford (285) closed out for Castleton, ranked seventh.

The Spartans will meet up with Ithaca College on Sunday, January 4, at 1:30 p.m.
