CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's volleyball team closed out its 2025 season on the road Saturday, falling 3-0 to Rhode Island College in conference play.

The Basics

Final Score: Rhode Island 3, VTSU Castleton 0

Location: The Murray Center – Providence, R.I.

Records: Rhode Island 13-13, 2-6 LEC | VTSU Castleton 13-14, 1-7 LEC

Jocelyn Ray led the Spartans' offense with seven kills, one dig, and a block. Alondra Rojas dished out 15 assists and chipped in five digs. Nicolette Vaughn led the defense with 10 digs and three assists.

Rhode Island College opened the match with a 4-0 run, but Castleton got on the board following a service error from Yuleisy Alvelo. The Spartans briefly slowed the Anchorwomen's momentum, but another Rhode Island run gave them control, and the Anchorwomen closed out the set, 25-15. The second set followed a similar pattern, with Rhode Island capitalizing on Spartan errors but strong outside hitting from Ray and Lilli Burrows allowed them to decrease the deficit. Despite the Spartans' strong effort, the Anchorwomen pulled away and won the set 25-12.

In the third set, Rhode Island came out strong again, scoring early points off Castleton mistakes and kills from multiple hitters. Kaitlyn Chapman recorded a kill to put the Spartans on the board, and Ray added key kills to keep them competitive. Castleton fought hard, but the Anchorwomen's offensive pressure was too much and they took to the set, 25-14, to complete the sweep.
