Castleton Cruises Past Plymouth State for Second LEC Victory

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's ice hockey team returned to the win column in a big way on Saturday, taking down Plymouth State University 5-2 for its second Little East Conference victory of the season.

How It Happened
Castleton opened strong, piling up 18 shots in the first 15 minutes before breaking through at 15:20. Caris Erickson buried her first of the season off feeds from Amanda Vaughn and Mikayla Brightman to make it 1-0.

Plymouth State tied it early in the second, but the Spartans answered quickly. Ellie Schliebener put Castleton back on top at 11:09 with help from Olivia Carter and Taylor Adams. Brightman added another two minutes later, assisted by Vaughn and Meg Aiken, pushing the lead to 3-1.

The Panthers scored early in the third to cut it to 3-2, but Castleton maintained control. Schliebener netted her second of the game on the power play at 12:10, set up by Adams and Moa Carlsson. Carlsson capped the day with an even-strength goal at 16:20, assisted by Schliebener and Adams, sealing the 5-2 win.
 
By the Numbers
• Schliebener (2g, 1a) and Adams (3a) led the offense with three points each. Vaughn, Carlsson and Brightman added two apiece.
Maysa Ford paced the defense with three blocks. Gianna McCusker stopped 24 shots for her second win of the season.
• Castleton held a 33-25 edge in faceoffs, with Adams posting a team-high 13 wins.

Up Next
Castleton returns home on Tuesday, November 18, to host Middlebury College at 6 p.m. in a nonconference matchup.
