MANSFIELD, CONN. – The Vermont State University Castleton field hockey dropped its first Little East Conference contest of the season at Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon, 2-1.

How It Happened
The Eastern Connecticut squad came out firing, put three shots on
Zoe Martin in the first quarter, all of which she was able to turn away to keep it 0-0 heading into the second quarter.
Martin again made three saves in the second stanza, while her squad was able to direct one shot on target. The contest remained knotted a zeros heading into the break.
It took just 34 seconds into the second half for the Warriors to finally find the back of the cage, going up 1-0. Castleton answered by tossing three shots on goal, all of which the EastConn goalie was able to stop.
The Spartans were finally able to score in the 51
st minute as
Gwyn Vincent found the back of the cage, helped along by LEC Offensive Player of the Week,
Ava LaRoss. The hosts answered quickly to regain their one goal advantage at 53:15.
Castleton was unable to put together another successful offensive push, falling 2-1.
By the Numbers
- Vincent once again proves why she leads the squad in goals as she recorded her eighth of the season.
- LaRoss remains second in points with 15 after putting up her third assist of the season.
- Despite dropping her seventh contest of the season, Martin was strong in the cage, making seven saves.

The Spartans will return home on Saturday, Oct. 18, as they host the Huskies of Southern Maine for a 5 p.m. LEC contest.
