LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's alpine skiing team finished fifth and fourth this weekend at Whiteface in two days of giant slalom.
Friday:
The Spartans finished fifth out of seven teams, posting a combined time of 7:33.45. Babson claimed first, Clarkson second, and UConn third.
Valero Echegoyen claimed his first career collegiate podium finish, placing third with a time of 2:00.34. Jack Conneely was the Spartans other scoring finisher in 19th, causing the team to take a ghost time.
Saturday:
Castleton took a fourth-place finish on day two, with a combined time of 6:23.94, with Babson in first, Clarkson second, and UConn third.
Lucas Pons Morillo was the Spartans highest finisher of the day in 11th with a time of 2:06.99. Alberto Lantelme finished right behind him in 12th with a time of 2:07.13. Conneely placed 14th, Sondre Andersen (18th), Matthew Moeckel (24th), and Leo Schnipper (29th) rounded out the Spartans finishers.
Castleton will head to West Mountain just over the border in Queensbury, N.Y. for two days of giant slalom starting Saturday, February 1.
