CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's volleyball team swept Norwich Wednesday night, 3-0 at Glenbrook Gym.
The Spartans swept the Cadets 25-14, 25-23, 25-20, racking up 37 kills and 33 digs, hitting .182 on the night. The Spartans racked up 14 aces as well, with
Alondra Rojas leading the team with five.
Rojas led the team with eight kills, followed by
Jocelyn Ray with 7 and
Kaitlyn Chapman and
Vanessa LeBrun with six apiece.
Victoria Garcia and Rojas led the Spartans with eight digs each, with
Hailey Martinovich adding five.
The Cadets racked up 10 blocks with Charlotte Johnson leading the team with five. Bella Belldina Ray led the Cadets with nine kills on the night.
Rojas went on a serving run to start the first set for the Spartans to give them a five-point lead before the Cadets were able to earn another point. Both teams traded points until Garcia earned two services aces amidst attack errors from the Cadets to give the Spartans a 10-point lead. The Spartans kept a comfortable lead for the rest of the first set. The second set saw more back-and-forth with the Spartans never giving up the lead as the Cadets were able to get within one point before the Spartans finished out the set 25-23. The Spartans fought back from behind, at one point by four points to secure the win with a service ace from
Madison Sheehan.
The Spartans are back in action Saturday, September 28 for a tri-match with conference opponent Rhode Island College at 2 p.m. and non-conference opponent Russell Sage College at 6 p.m.
