WESTFIELD, Mass. – A pair of Vermont State University Castleton football players hauled in weekly honors from the MASCAC on Monday afternoon, with
Caezar Williams landing Offensive Player of the Week honors and
Ian DeTulleo reaping Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Williams had a career day on offense, racking up eight catches for 174 yards and three touchdowns in the Spartans' 32-13 win over Framingham State. He scored on catches of 21 yards, 45 yards and seven yards, and reeled in a 52-yard completion that pushed Castleton deep into Framingham territory in the first quarter on 3rd-and-9, leading to his first touchdown of the day three plays later on a 4th-down play. He amassed more than 200 all-purpose yards on the day, adding in 30-plus yards in the return game for Castleton.
DeTulleo had a great day for the Spartans in multiple areas, blocking a kick and returning it for a two-point conversion. He blocked the PAT on the first touchdown of the game, swinging momentum back to the Spartans after Framingham struck first. After the block, he scooped the ball and ran it down the sideline 97 yards for the two-point conversion. On defense, he also had a second-half interception that gave Castleton the ball in plus territory.
This marks the second week in a row to open the season that Castleton has had multiple award winners, as
Tyson Hall won Rookie of the Week and
CJ Childs was named Special Teams Player of the Week on September 9.
The Spartans host Mass. Maritime on Saturday in the first home tilt of the year on Homecoming and Family Weekend. Kick-off is slated for noon at Dave Wolk Stadium.
