Women's Volleyball Outlasts MCLA, 3-2

Box Score NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's volleyball team was victorious 3-2 on Wednesday night, outlasting MCLA in a non-conference tilt at the Amsler Campus Center.
 
Hailey Martinovich continued her torrid start to the season, racking up 17 kills with a .261 hitting percentage. She also had a dozen digs and played part in four blocks for 20.5 total points on the night. Jocelyn Ray found her groove on offense with 12 kills, tying a season high for the sophomore. Alondra Rojas had 10 kills and five aces to go with 31 assists and 10 digs. Victoria Garcia amassed 25 digs to lead the team, while Vanessa LeBrun added 14, Delia Roulston had 12 and Lillirose Prevost chipped in 11. Garcia also had a trio of aces.
 
The Spartans jumped out to a lead in the match with a 25-10 win in the opening set, followed up with a 25-19 win in set two for a 2-0 edge. MCLA stormed back, winning the third set 25-19 before taking a tight fourth set 25-23 to force a fifth set. The Spartans rebounded from the back-to-back dropped sets, taking the winner-take-all frame 15-4 for the 3-2 win to improve to 4-2 on the season.
 
As a team, VTSU Castleton hit .259 and had 91 total digs with 56 kills on offense. The 56 kills are tied for third-most in a single match in program history.
 
VTSU Castleton is back in action Saturday with its first home games of the season when it hosts SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Delhi for a tri-match beginning at 11 a.m.
