LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's tennis team bagged its fifth non-conference win of the season at VTSU Lyndon in an 8-1 victory at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center on Monday.

The Spartans (6-5) collected shutouts in two of the three doubles flights as Khiem Nguyen and Jason Lipscomb notched the first point over Lyndon's (2-7) David Gratton and Gilbert Flores. Christian Giannone and Eamonn Offutt, in his career debut, soared to a third-slot win before the No. 1 pair of Miki Almirall/Connor Davis completed the tandem sweep over Jeffrey Blais/Stephen Wutzl, 8-4.

Giannone used consecutive 6-1 sets to top James Salvas in fifth singles as the clinching point came from Offutt in 7-5, 6-0 fashion at the fourth spot. Lipscomb overcame Gilbert Flores at the No. 4 and Nguyen grinded out two 6-4 sets at the top flight to extend the gap to 7-0, but the Hornets tallied a win at second singles via Gratton. The dual wrapped up with Davis and Wutzl playing a modified eight-game set, the senior coming away with an 8-1 victory to close the dual.

VTSU Castleton hosts its final home match of the year on Wednesday, April 24 against Thomas. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
