CASTLETON, Vt. - The Vermont State University Castleton women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference battle against an aggressive SUNY Morrisville team Saturday, 21-9 at Dave Wolk Stadium.

Phoebe Loomis and
Gianna Geraci led the way for the Spartans with four points each. Loomis netted a goal and dished out three assists, while Geraci netted three goals and had an assist.
Kimberly McCarthy added three goals for the Spartans and scooped up six ground balls.
Liv Cormier made a season-high 13 saves in the contest.

For the Mustangs, Alana McDonald and Alexa Ringgold each netted five goals, with three and two assists respectively. Four Mustangs contributed three points each, Maddie Baum, Anyssia Ingersoll, and Jazlyn Leet all from goals, and Jillian Dodge from one goal and two assists.

The Mustangs jumped to a three-goal lead after the first quarter, posting five scores in the opening 15 minutes. For the Spartans, McCarthy netted her first of three goals on the day, with Loomis scoring in the first as well to make it 5-2. The second quarter opened with two goals for the Spartans from
Tien Connor and Geraci to make it 5-4 before the Mustangs struck back with three goals to put the Spartans down by four, 8-4. McCarthy and Ward each scored before the half, but Morrisville added two more goals as well to lead 10-6 at the break.

McCarthy put the first goal of the second half on the board to give her three in the contest, and Geraci netted two more in the quarter to give her a hat-trick as well but the Mustang offense was too much to overcome as the visitors scored five times in the third and six times in the fourth to secure the victory.

The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday in New Hampshire against Rivier at 5 p.m.
