Baseball Drops to Sewanee in Second Game Down South

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Vermont State University Castleton baseball dropped by Sewanee, 14-1 Saturday afternoon.

VTSU Castleton (0-2) fell to Sewanee (4-3) in their second game in Montgomery, Alabama. Hunter Perkins (1-3) and Tyler McLain (1-4) grab hits in their second straight game and Sam Crawford makes his debut throwing 90 pitches in the Spartans loss.

The Spartans found themselves in a similar situation from yesterday's game (2/23) against Huntingdon. In the third inning, Jared Cafasso was able to find home plate after senior Kannon Dush made a sacrifice fly to right field allowing for the Spartans to tie the game at one.

Crawford started on the mound for Castleton and held his ground. Tossing 90 pitches in 5.2 innings and striking out the Tigers eight times in his season debut. Jared Maher filled in his spot on the offensive side of the ball as the designated hitter, going 2-3 as Castleton's best hitter of the day.

In the middle innings, the Tigers got into a groove on the offense with a three run homerun by Wilson Irvin that changed the momentum in the game. Sewanee would finish with 10 hits and 14 runs to defeat Castleton 14-1.

VTSU Castleton returns to action Sunday, February 25 at 1 p.m. ET (12 p.m. CT) against Mount St. Joseph.
