GENEVA, N.Y. — The Vermont State University Castleton women's hockey team wrapped up its 2023-24 season on the road Saturday, dropping its New England Hockey Conference Tournament quarterfinal matchup to William Smith, 4-0.
The sixth-seeded Spartans (11-13-2) were nearly even with the No. 3 Herons (18-8-1) in shots on goal at a 38-39 count. Moa Carlsson led the offensive attack, delivering six on-target attempts while Taylor Adams and Ellie Schliebener blasted five apiece.
In the crease, Kirsten DiCicco denied 35 Heron shots to post a .945 save percentage in her senior season, marking the program's second-best campaign all-time. Amanda Vaughn knocked down two shots in the defensive zone as Carlsson and Codi Bacon each registered one block.
William Smith saw Annie Hauser notch her fourth clean sheet of the year, saving all 38 shots on net. Four different Herons found twine in the victory: Brittany Foster, Sydney Foster, Lauren Jackson, and Kelly Howe who also added an assist.
VTSU Castleton ends its 20th season with an 11-13-2 overall record including a 9-7-2 clip in conference play.
