CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's basketball team fell at home in a Little East Conference matchup with Rhode Island College, 90-37, on Saturday afternoon.
The Anchorwomen went on an 11-point run to open the contest before being slowed by a
Stasia Epler three midway through the opening quarter to make it 11-3. A 13-4 run in favor of the visitors ensued, seeing them up 24-7 heading into the second stanza.
Quarter two was the best for the Spartans in terms of scoring, seeing them put up 16 points to 27 by RIC. Dingmon, Epler and
Luna Perry-St. Peter recorded four points apiece.
Natalie Royer and
Sadie Young tacked on two.
The Anchorwoman were able to grow their advantage to 53-points down the stretch, pulling away with a 90-37 victory.
Dingmon led the way for the Spartans as she neared a double-double with her 10 rebounds and eight points. The first-year was strong on the defense with eight of her boards coming in the back court. She also had two steals.
It was Epler who followed close behind with her seven points and five rebounds. She went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
VTSU Castleton will take a break from conference play on December 30 when it travels to Troy, N.Y. to take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in a 1 p.m. contest.
