MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's basketball team dropped a road contest to Middlebury College on Tuesday afternoon, 75-47.
Despite opening the contest on a pair of
Emily Dingmon buckets from the charity stripe, the hosts were quick to answer and take control of the contest, 6-2 (7:35).
Middlebury was able to grow its lead to 12 by the end of the first behind 14-6 scoring.
The Spartans continued to trail in the second stanza, while
Stasia Epler collected six points on a three-pointer, layup and a free throw.
Maggie McKearin also recorded a bucket from beyond the arc. The Panthers owned a 41-19 advantage at the half.
VTSU Castleton and Middlebury would continue to trade buckets, but the latter would quietly grow its lead, seeing its largest advantage with 4:49 remaining in the contest, ahead 69-39.
Epler sank two more treys in the closing minutes, as she finished the day 4-for-6 from the three-point land.
The junior posted a career-high 24 points to lead her squad. She also nabbed six boards and two assists.
Dingmon was atop the rebounding category with her seven rebounds, she was second in scoring with 10 points. The first year also dished out one assist.
The Spartans will pause for the Thanksgiving Break before returning to action on Wednesday December 4, as they travel to Western Connecticut to do battle with the Wolves in a 5 p.m. contest.
