Women's Hockey Sweeps Falcons With OT Victory

RUTLAND, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's hockey team swept Albertus Magnus with a 2-1 victory in overtime Saturday afternoon.

Taylor Adams notched the game-winning goal in OT for her first goal of the season. Gianna McCusker made her collegiate debut in net and provided 23 saves to help secure the victory for the Spartans.

After a high-scoring game one, game two took a different approach with neither side finding a goal in the opening period. It wasn't till first-year Brooke Noble opened the scoring with an assist from Olivia Carter in the second period to get the game going.

The Falcons came back from a tough loss in game one and matched Castleton's energy in game two. Tori Walsh picked up where she left off from her two-goal game in the first matchup and scored on a powerplay in just 17 seconds to tie the game up at one at the end of the second period.

The two sides battled back and forth and kept the game even between each side. Christmas Johnson played a strong game with 37 saves for the Falcons. McCusker made two huge saves in the closing minutes of the third period to keep the score level and send the game to overtime.

The Spartans earned a powerplay in OT and were granted a 4-on-3 opportunity. Cycling the puck well, Castleton stayed patient until Meg Aiken connected with Adams on the far side of the net who buried the puck to give Castleton the victory and their second win in New England Hockey Conference play.

VTSU Castleton returns to action on the road Friday, November 22 at 4 p.m. against UMass Boston.
