RUTLAND, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's hockey team fell short to Albertus Magnus, with the Falcons taking a 4-3 victory in overtime Saturday afternoon.
AJ Lackas opened the scoring for the Falcons within the first minutes of the opening period to take a 1-0 lead.
Castleton responded with a strong second period with first-year
Luke Chakrabarti bagging his first collegiate goal with a set-up pass from
Andrew Stefura to tie the game up at one.
Cam Reid found his first goal of the second with 6 minutes left in the second period to give the Spartans their first lead of the series.
The Spartans' efforts didn't stop there as
Josef Vyvial netted his first goal of the season on the powerplay to give Castleton a 3-1 lead after two periods of play.
Dominic Rodrigue played a sensational game in the net with a season-high 47 saves.
Albertus tested the Spartans' lead in the third period and was able to find two goals to tie the game up at three apiece to send the game into overtime.
Zach Papapetros sent a shot on target but would be denied. The Falcons picked up Papapetros' opportunity and skated down the ice with William Lavigne netting the game-winning goal and securing the victory for the Falcons.
VTSU Castleton returns to action Friday, November 22 at 7 p.m. against Skidmore at Spartan Arena.
