NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's volleyball team fell to UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon, 3-0.
Vanessa LeBrun led the Spartans' offense with five kills and one assist.
Alondra Rojas dished out 12 assists and chipped in six digs.
Victoria Garcia led the defense with 11 digs and three assists.
The Corsairs started the set hot, pulling out to a 14-8 lead before
Jocelyn Ray earned a kill to pull the Spartans within five. The Corsairs then went on an 8-0 run to go up 22-9 before the Spartans could find an answer with three points of their own. The Corsairs ended the set with two kills to take set one 25-15.
The Corsairs opened set two with a 7-0 run before LeBrun answered with a kill. The Corsairs kept the Spartan offense at bay, taking set two 25-11. Set three opened with a 5-0 Corsairs run before the Spartans took advantage of errors by the Corsairs. The Spartans trailed 18-3 before
Nicolette Vaughn and Rojas earned kills of their own. The Corsairs continued to go on runs, ending the third and final set on a 4-0 run to take the set 25-8.
The Spartans are back in action for its last home games of the year on Saturday, November 2, hosting UMass Boston and SUNY Cobleskill for a tri-match at 2 and 6 p.m.
