NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's soccer team fell in a tightly contested Little East Conference battle at UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon, 2-1.
The Spartan's lone goal came in the 68th minute, with
Alexis Billings finding the back of the net off a pass from
Becky Hannwacker for her eighth goal of the season.
Emma Ezzo finished the day with eight saves.
The Spartans had seven shots in the first half, with Hannwacker putting up the first shot on goal up seven minutes into the first half that was saved by Tori Russo for her only save of the day.
Allison Galante had the Spartans last shot on goal for the first half, with Grace Conti making the save.
Rylee Pepin opened up the shooting for the Spartans in the second half, with Conti making another save. Billings' goal gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead before the Corsairs answered in the 77th minute with Antonella Goncalves finding the back of the net. The Corsair's second goal came seven minutes later to take a 2-1 lead with five minutes remaining. Conti made her last save of the day off a shot from
Emma Kirby to secure the win for the Corsairs.
The Spartans are back in action tomorrow, Sunday, October 20 at Williams College at 2:30 p.m.
