SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's volleyball team fell at Skidmore on Wednesday night, 3-0.
Hailey Martinovich led the Spartan offense with 12 kills on the night.
Alondra Rojas dished out 23 assists and chipped in nine digs on defense.
Victoria Garcia had a team-high 17 digs on the night.
The Spartans jumped out to a 9-6 lead to start the first set, before the Thoroughbreds went on a 9-0 run to take a 15-9 lead. Rojas earned a kill after a Thoroughbred error to get the momentum going for the Spartans.
Kaitlyn Chapman and Martinovich earned kills for the Spartans to bring them back within one, but the Thoroughbreds did not let up and took the first set 25-19.
The Thoroughbreds began set two right out of the gate, going on a 12-0 run.
Nicolette Vaughn earned her first kill of the night to end the scoring drought for the Spartans. The Spartans' last score of the set came from
Vanessa LeBrun with a kill, before the Thoroughbreds closed out the set 25-10. The third set saw the Thoroughbreds go up 17-9 before Chapman scored her fourth kill of the night to get the Spartans within 10. The Thoroughbred offense and service aces could not be stopped, with Skidmore taking the final set 25-14.
The Spartans are back home on Saturday, October 19 against Little East opponent Plymouth State for senior day at 11 a.m.
