Women's Hockey Goes The Distance Against William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y. – Vermont State University Castleton women's hockey tied with William Smith Saturday afternoon, 0-0.

VTSU Castleton continued their Central New York trip with a game in Geneva, N.Y. against William Smith. The Spartans looked to get back into the win column after falling to No. 12 Elmira in conference action Friday night.

With puck drop taking place at The Cooler, the two NEHC teams were off and ready. Castleton and William Smith looked even throughout most of the game. Victoria Bakopanos started in net for the Spartans and showed off her skills. Bakopanos shut down the Herons opportunities and allowed for Castleton to grow confidence throughout the game. Megan Ward had five blocks to help Bakopanos keep the Herons off the scoresheet.

Each team went back and forth, creating their own chances, drawing penalties and shutting down the opposing sides attack. With the fair number of chances from each side, no one was able to secure the first lead of the game. After three periods of play, no one was able to find the back of net and a fourth period was needed to find a winner. However, the game would end in a draw, with Bakopanos providing 35 saves in the scoreless draw. This is Castleton's second draw of the season.

VTSU Castleton return to action next Friday, January 12 at 6 p.m. against UMass Boston.
