PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's tennis team was defeated by Plattsburgh State, 8-1, on Wednesday afternoon.
In doubles action, the Cardinals (2-0) took each of the three sets despite a valiant effort from second-slot pair Ginny Trevisan/Camille Jackson who pushed Ava Carey/Jacklin Mitchell to an 8-5 final.
The Spartans (0-2) saw Stella Forte contend well at No. 1 singles with Plattsburgh's Samantha Svantner in a 6-2, 6-4 match. After the Cardinals grabbed the first eight points, Jackson snatched the final point at the fourth flight with a first set victory via tiebreak and a 6-4 triumph in the second.
VTSU Castleton hosts Little East Conference foe UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, September 9 for the 2023 home opener. First serve is scheduled for noon.
