Women's Volleyball Splits at Russell Sage

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at Russell Sage College on Saturday, besting the Gators in the opening match, 3-1, before falling to SUNY Oneonta in the second tilt, 3-0.
 
Castleton sits at 4-3 on the season after Saturday's action. Jocelyn Ray accounted for a team-high 27 points thanks to 20 kills, three aces and five total blocks across the two matches, while Hailey Martinovich logged 16 kills and six aces. Caitlin Mahoney contributed 14 kills in the two matches. Isabella Luna had 31 digs in the two competitions followed by Vanessa LeBrun's 26 and Maddie Delsignore's 20. Delsignore also had 42 assists.
 
In the win over Sage, Castleton won 25-23, 25-16, 20-25, 25-19 in a tight battle throughout. Ray amassed 12 kills in the match while Martinovich had 11. Ray also had three solo blocks and two block assists in the contest. Luna compiled 22 digs against Sage and LeBrun had 19. Delsignore racked up 28 assists and 11 digs in the match to go with five kills of her own.
 
Against Oneonta, Castleton fell by scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-19. Ray led the team with eight kills followed by Mahoney with seven and Martinovich with five. Delsignore had 14 assists and nine digs, tying Luna for the team-lead in digs as well.
 
The Spartans are back at home Thursday night at 7 p.m. when they host SUNY Cobleskill in Glenbrook Gym.
