CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University men's lacrosse team hosted UMass Boston on Tuesday night in the penultimate game of the regular season, falling 25-7 to the high-powered Beacons in Little East Conference action.
Castleton (4-12, 1-6 LEC) was outshot 77-30 with a 52-17 margin on goal. The Beacons (11-6, 6-2 LEC) went 15-of-17 on the clear while Castleton was 20-of-33. The Beacons racked up a 63-23 edge in ground balls and won 33-of-36 face-offs.
Chris LaBonte notched his second hat-trick in a row, following up a five-goal game on Saturday with three goals in Tuesday's contest.
Cam Frankenhoff had two goals and an assist while
Sean Kimura added a goal and two assists.
Liam Evarts scored for Castleton as well and
Casey Meczywor had an assist. LaBonte and Meczywor had four ground balls apiece to lead the team while
Kam Strickland caused a team-high three turnovers.
Christopher Dindino made 21 saves in 45 minutes of action while
Conor McWeeny stopped six shots in the final 15 minutes of play.
Gavin Admirand led UMass Boston with four goals and five assists while Connor Smith and Greg Wolff had four goals each as well. Five others scored two goals each. Jason McNeany had 14 ground balls while winning all 16 of his face-offs. Trevor Koppy earned the win in goal with three first-half saves while Otto Kirleis made seven saves in 21 minutes of play.
The Beacons raced out to a 6-0 lead before LaBonte made a drive around the perimeter and ripped a shot past Koppy to make it 6-1. LaBonte scored again in the second quarter to make it 7-2, but the Beacons scored the next 10 goals in the contest to push ahead, 17-2. Evarts broke the drought for the Spartans before Frankenhoff tallied the next two Spartan goals. Kimura was next on the board for Castleton in the fourth quarter before LaBonte netted the final goal of the game with 37 seconds remaining.
Castleton wraps up the regular season on Friday at Mass. Maritime at 7 p.m.
