Women's Lacrosse Suffers Road Loss at Eastern Connecticut

MANSFIELD, Conn. – The Castleton University women's lacrosse team fell behind early and was unable to recover on Saturday as the Spartans fell 24-4 to Eastern Connecticut State University in Little East Conference road action.
 
The Warriors held a 38-16 edge in total shots and a 28-12 advantage in shots on goal. Eastern was 12-of-14 on the clear while holding Castleton to 6-of-17. Ground balls narrowly favored ECSU, 21-19, as did draw controls, 16-13.
 
Kimberly McCarthy netted two goals for Castleton and Lacey Greenamyre had a goal and an assist in the contest. Megan Ward scored for Castleton as well. Greenamyre led the team with six draw controls and tied Ward for a team-leading two caused turnovers. Maddie Brasser—making just her second start in goal this season—finished the game with four saves and four ground balls.
 
Shay Ventresca piled on the points for the Warriors, amassing nine goals and five assists for 14 total points. Alexa Vizzini had seven goals and three assists for a 10-point day. Kaylee Drobish, Jessie Pyrek-Bennett and Emma Oliano had two goals each. Warrior goalie Emma Alford stopped eight shots in the win.
 
The Warriors scored the first 17 goals of the contest before Castleton got on the board in the third quarter with a score by Greenamyre. Four minutes later, McCarthy scored her first goal to make it 18-2. McCarthy opened the scoring in the fourth quarter with her second goal of the day before Ward scored Castleton's final goal with 4:06 to play.
 
The Spartans are on the road once again on Wednesday with a game at Keene State at 6:30 p.m.
