BOSTON, Mass. — The Castleton men's tennis took on UMass Boston Tuesday, dropping a 7-2 dual at the BC High Tennis Courts.
In doubles, Miki Almirall/Phil Kluge fell 8-3 at the top flight as the Spartans' (4-5, 0-4 LEC) third slot was topped by the same margin. Jason Lipscomb and Connor Davis were neck-and-neck with Maxwell Dill and Melvin Nina of UMass Boston (1-5, 1-2 LEC), but came on the other end of an 8-6 set.
Almirall was defeated 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles as Davis met a similar fate at the third spot, giving the Beacons a clinch. Lipscomb pulled out a decisive 6-1, 6-1 triumph at the fourth flight. After losing his first set at the flight No. 5, Stanley Andersen snatched a 6-1 victory and bagged the super-tiebreak, 10-6, for another Castleton point. A super-tiebreak in Phil Kluge's match at the second spot saw UMB take a 10-8 decision. Andy Phelan fell at the No. 6 singles slot, sealing the Beacons' 7-2 win.
The Spartans continue Little East Conference play on Saturday, April 15 as they host Salem State for the squad's first on-campus dual of 2023. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
