Women's Hockey Bested by No.10 Colby, 6-1

RUTLAND, Vt. – Vermont State University Castleton women's hockey fall to No. 10 Colby in the championship round of The Bagley Invitational, 6-1 on Saturday.

VTSU Castleton hosted The Bagley Invitational, where they defeated Rivier 5-0 in the opening round to move on to the championship, where they faced No. 10 Colby after they defeated SUNY Potsdam 4-1.

The puck dropped at Spartan Arena and the players were off to a fast start. Each team brought the energy and were looking to be crowned champions at the end of this game. The Spartans pushed the pace early and controlled the puck well in the Mules territory. Ellie Schliebener caught the puck trying to escape Colby's defense zone, put it back into play to find Alex Johnson who blasted one at Colby's keeper Paige Bolyard. Bolyard made the first save but would not be successful on Taylor Adams' follow up shot, which snuck past Bolyard and put the Spartans on the board first. Castleton continued to play fast and upbeat against the Mules and would head to the locker room at the conclusion of the first period with a 1-0 lead.

With the second period starting, it became all Mules hockey. Colby would go on to light the lamp six straight times and would defeat Castleton at their home invitational. Moa Carlsson was named to the All-Tournament team with one goal and two assist and Nora Pollestad also joined Carlsson on the All-Tournament team with one assist and four blocks.

The Spartans will enjoy the holiday break and be back in action next year, January 3 at 3 p.m. as they take on No. 3 Amherst.
