Women's Hockey Downs Worcester St. 4-1

WORCESTER, Mass. – Vermont State University Castleton women's hockey defeat Worcester St. 4-1 Friday night.

VTSU Castleton faced off against Worcester St. on Friday night. With a couple new faces to the lineup, the Castleton went into Fidelity Bank Ice Center and had three Spartans collect multiple points and secured the victory. Senior forward Emily Harris returned to the starting lineup after finishing her historic field hockey season last week. In her first game back, Harris brought the offensive energy and wasted no time bagging her first goal on the ice. Victoria Griffin and Ellie Schliebener connected with Harris to each pick up an assist on the play.

In the second period, the Spartans worked the Lancers in their own end quite a bit and eventually earned themselves a penalty. Castleton did not waste the opportunity, as defender Emery Bonner would find an open Harris to score her second of the night and put the Spartans up by two. The Spartans continued their buzz and wouldn't be stopped, as Schliebener would get her second assist of the game with a set up play to first year Taylor Adams for her first goal of the game and to extend the Spartans lead to three.

Victoria Bakopanos made her season debut for VTSU Castleton in the net and did not disappoint, making 32 saves and shutting down three power play attempts from the Lancers. With Bakopanos effort in the net, it made it easy for the Spartans to cycle the puck out of the defensive zone. The Lancers would attempt to get back into the game by pulling their goalie with the final minutes of the third period, but Adams would crush their hopes in any return with an empty net goal to secure her second of the game and the fifth of the season.

The Spartans are back in action Friday, November 17 at 6 p.m. at New England College.
