CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's soccer team slipped against Little East Conference opponent UMass Boston, 6-0, Saturday afternoon.
Stanley Andersen fired two shots with one directed toward the net. Lucas McCane, Seth Dube, and Charlie Cisneros also recorded on-target attempts for the Spartans (4-10-1, 1-4-1 LEC) while the Beacons (11-3-2, 5-1-1 LEC) sent 14 shots into the box. Andres Soto-Burgos made eight saves including a few miraculous denials, moving the Bronx, N.Y. native up to ninth in the program's record book with 291 career stops.
Gabriel Meireles, the league's top scorer, paced UMass Boston with two goals and a helper. Annilson DePina found the twine once with an assist while Marron Acheampong, Rafael Gross, and John Arruda each added a tally.
VTSU Castleton celebrates the careers of its nine seniors tomorrow, October 22 in a non-conference match with Colby-Sawyer. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. with Senior Day festivities beginning approximately 20 minutes prior.
