Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Dropped By Keene, 5-3

KEENE, N.H. – Vermont State University Castleton field hockey fell in Little East Conference action Wednesday night, 5-3 to Keene St.

The Owl's scored off a penalty corner opportunity to take an early lead. Senior forward Emily Harris responded quickly for the Spartans, driving down the field and scoring her 38th goal of the season to tie the game at one a piece. After Harris' goal, Keene took control of the game, scoring two more times and out shooting the Spartans 13-3 in the first half.

To begin the 2nd half, Keene's Irini Stefanakos extended the Owl's lead to five over the Spartans. Castleton wouldn't go down without a fight, as Jess Smithson found the back of the cage halfway through the third quarter to spark the momentum for Castleton.

The Spartans continued the offensive pressure, out shooting the Owl's 12-1 in the 2nd half. Senior forward Theresa Culpo scored her third goal of the season to bring the Spartans back within two. However, Castleton's late efforts in the fourth were not enough to get pass the Owl's defense.

VTSU Castleton is back in action for senior day, Saturday, October 21 at Dave Wolk Stadium as they take on Southern Maine at noon.
