AMHERST, Mass. — The Vermont State University Castleton women's soccer team was bested by Amherst, 8-0, in non-conference competition Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans (3-11-1) were held shotless by the No. 7 Mammoths (11-1-1) who fired 50 shots with 27 on goal. Emma Ezzo spent the first half between the posts, knocking away nine attempts as Amaya Rogers totaled 10 saves in the second stanza.
Amherst's Patience Kum and Precious Novidzro each scored twice as shots by Brooke Ingemi, Carter Hollingsworth, Halle Hanna, and Katie Pedersen also found the back of the net.
VTSU Castleton returns to Little East Conference play on Saturday, October 21 when the Spartans head to UMass Boston. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
