The Spartans got off to a quick start, hitting two layups early for a 4-0 lead before USM's Fleming hit a jumper and a successive three-pointer to make it 5-4 in favor of USM. Vuz matched Fleming's three on the other end the following possession for a 7-5 lead, jump-starting a 12-0 run for Castleton that pushed the lead to 16-5 with 4:14 left in the first quarter. Emily Adams also had a three during the span, and Magro had six of the 12 points. Fleming broke the drought for USM with a layup before Vuz made it 19-7 with two free throws. Fleming knocked down a jumper with 3:12 to play in the opening frame for a 19-9 score, a mark that didn't move over the final three minutes of play in the frame.

Maggie McKearin opened the second with a bucket for Castleton before Magro hit a pair of free throws to push the lead to 22-9. A three by USM's Vaughan broke a five-minute scoreless stretch for the Huskies, but Vuz again matched on the other end for Castleton to keep the lead at 14 points, 26-12.
