NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Castleton women's hockey team was held scoreless by nationally-ranked New England Hockey Conference foe Norwich, suffering a 3-0 road loss to the Cadets Saturday afternoon.
Kirsten DiCicco saved 35 of 38 shots on goal, moving her season record to 5-5-1 between the pipes. Meg Aiken and Julia Carpenter were above .500 in the faceoff circle while Kaitlin Bardellini led the Spartans (11-7-1, 8-4-0) with three blocks.
After a scoreless 31 minutes, the Cadets (12-5-1, 10-1-1) received the go-ahead goal from Ally Lague in the second period. Emma O'Neill extended the lead with a third-stanza strike following a rebound. Mikah Baptiste, who assisted the first two goals, added Norwich's final score – a power play goal – with 8:45 left in the game.
The Spartans return to action at Spartan Arena on Friday, January 27 to host Salem State. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m.
